Maryland has sometimes been called “America in Miniature” because of its varied landscapes and deep historical ties. Defined by the Chesapeake Bay which nearly bisects the state, Maryland is renowned for its seafood scene and maritime importance. Evidence of the latter can be found in the capital city of Annapolis, home to the United States Naval Academy, and amongst the tall ships in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The state is also the birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner, site of many critical Civil War battles and hosts several government agencies such as the NSA and NASA.
